While reading blogs...
I was out on a wild goose search (chase is so cliche...) looking for interesting blogs to read (btw do you still call it search if you use a random next blog algorithm?) .I found some interesting things about blogs and their ability to attract me i.e. Which kinds of blogs kept my attention longer and which couldn't and why?
My initial intention was never to find such features (in blogs) and I did find some very interesting blogs (which was my intial intention) but it was a very good find nonetheless. I am not saying that you may like the same things in someone's blog as I did.
- Language: This was the most important issue. If the language was not english I moved away from the blog very quickly.
- Font Size & Background/Font Colour (ya I spell it 'ur'): Blogs with black background colour definitely reduced the time I wanted to check them out. Also a very small font size was a big disincentive(even though an interesting title could still hold my attention). If the bgcolor/font colour were similar I tended to leave the blogs quickly.
- Too many pictures: I am not a huge fan of picture blogs esp pictures of nothing (some people had pictures of sweaters and drops of water etc I can't stand them). Too much text is still better than too many pictures.
- Too many :), ;) , lol and such emoticon symbols (or even 1337) : Now such stuff is just lame.
The best blogs had a few pics interspersed with good readable text. (btw some such blogs had a terrible arrangment of the pics. Don't try to right align or left align. Just keep the text above and below the damn pic)
Note to self: Add more pics to the blogs.
