Mohammed Cartoons, Indians and the Quiet Blogs

Well an Indian minister has placed a bounty now. But if you think that Indian bloggers would start blogging strongly about the Mohammed Cartoon issue now then you are pretty wrong. You will see none of it.
Some Indian bloggers will post some usual crap that everybody should remain calm, that all sides should act maturely and blah...

But no, they won't dare to take sides ever. Not on this issue. So how is it that a certain political movement that hate has been the only one to raise this issue actively.

I have read many sensible blogs from people from Kuala Lumpur to Seattle. But have I seen anything from an Indian apart from apologist stuff. Hell No...
And on the IIPM issue i read posts like free speech, the power of the blogosphere. Where has that gone now?
When the world has united against the few who stood by their right to free speech, I for one have decided to take my stand. Any one against free speech is wrong. There is no such thing applying discretion, if there is nothing we can freely speak about then what discretion will we apply.
Fools stopped MF Hussain, Fools stopped Deepa Mehta, and now fools are trying to stop people like me.
At times like this we have places like the Wikipedia to turn to, I have to admit that Wiki is the last bastion of free speech left.

Freedom of speech also comes with a responsibility. One should not make sweeping statements like fools. There are many avenues for freedom of expression. Innocent lives are lost in the name of freedom of expression. Even in the western countries, the western media(powerful media barons) decided to ban the cartoons. They know from experience.

If by western you mean america then you are wrong. American media has never been a symbol of free press. They always tow the ruling parties line.

Your whole argument is wrong, Freedom of expression does not lead to innocent lives being lost. Its the lack of proper freedom that leads to it.
A political will can easily stop the riots. Govts have to control Law and Order not stop people from expressing their views peacefully.

Is that not being too idealistic?

I agree with aniket that freedom of speech is important and the kind of muslim reaction we are seeing reveals a total want of decency on their part.

I had actually posted some of the cartoons of the prophet in my blog as a token protest against the muslim reactionaries. However, parental pressure forced me to delete the post.

My personal view is that the cartoons were needless and not even funny, but I simply can't digest mullahs offering 50 crores for the head of the newspaper editor.

Moreover, the actual reason for the protests is the fact that Islam doesn't allow a muslim to ascribe a physical form to prophets or gods. However, others are under no obligation to follow the dictates of Islam and the muslims must remember this.

And if such is the case, why don't they pull up M.F.Hussain for drawing nude Saraswatis?
