Indians, Payment and Good Service
By afternoon, 360 Air Deccan passengers, supposed to take flights to Chennai and Bangalore, said they have had enough. After a nightlong wait, they had hoped their flight would finally take off or they will be accommodated in another flight.Passengers of other airlines had similar complaints. SpiceJet’s flight to Mumbai, scheduled to take off at 5 p.m., was delayed for several hours even after the passengers had been issued boarding passes.
Is it just me? Has the rest of the India turned a blind eye towards the irony which i can see quite clearly( if irony is the word I want to use).
Its weird,
a)People want air fares to come down
b)They won't pay for service
c)They still want that service
d)When not provided they act like they are victims of some terrible tragedy that should get national attention
Why the hell don't people just use the normal costly airlines instead if they want that service. Among the domestic carriers Indian Airlines and Jet took care of their passengers, then why not stick to them.
Let me make myself clear I am not trying to advertise for these airlines. Infact my point has nothing to do with them.
Its not just with airlines. Its with a lot of things especially the non-essential goods and services. People (esp Indians) just don't wanna pay for good service.
Its not the same for agricultural items or most manufactured goods.
People don't go out and buy the cheapest TV set of and expect it to have a life as long (if not more) than the costlier branded items.
They don't go to grocers to get the cheapest food and then expect it to be as good as a packaged item.
But they do hire cheaper cook or get stuff stitched from the cheaper tailor expecting it to be just as good.
Economics tells me that people pay the cost only if they value the item more than the cost. But tell me if it is right to value 'good service' that low.
I prefer cheaper things too. But when I do so I expect terrible service . I don't go out and buy the cheap laptop, expecting the after sales guy to take care of my maintenance.
Its a simple thing that most Indians fail to realise. But the sooner they do the better, because very soon they'll have to start to pay.

Well,
Your point seems to be 'If we want better services, we should be ready to pay more money'. I agree with you completely but you should also take into account the fact that these low cost services are claiming to provide services (alteast the on-time part) on par with the higher cost airlines. If they make no such claim and we are consciously making the decision to pay less in lieu of worse services, then your point is valid. In the present situation, your logic is sketchy at best...
